Renovating a kitchen can feel overwhelming, but it's a journey full of excitement, creativity and... a lot of take out. In this post, we are highlighting the details and design elements that went into this Leesburg, Virginia kitchen. Whether you are planning a kitchen remodel or building from the ground up, we hope this behind the scenes inspires you.
The Before

This family wanted to love their space but it felt dark and outdated, and didn't function the way they needed it to as parents of small children. We listened to their needs and preferences, studied what they were drawn to, as well as areas of the home they already loved, and got to work on creating a design that felt like them and functioned for them.
The Vision
This was the beginning of many home projects for this family so we were trying to be cost savvy. In doing this, we painted their existing cabinets as they were in great shape. We made many modifications, however. The first was removing the clutter-collecting desk and designing a custom pantry in it's place. We then extended the island and reconfigured the edges so that three stools could comfortably fit. Finally, we sourced a custom hood did a combination of paint / stain - this is one of my favorite design elements in the kitchen. How often do you see a green hood??

After looking into updating tile vs installing hardwood, we decided that with this open concept home, installing hardwood and matching the existing wood would flow the best from space to space.
We all (design team and client) loved the look of Taj Mahal - I mean who doesn't - so we sourced a Taj Mahal "look alike" quartz for worry-free kitchen countertops ready for all the messes that come with raising a family. Our clients already shared with us that they have enjoyed the large island countertop for the children to help with baking and cooking. Quartz is an extremely durable countertop material and is a wonderful choice for busy families.
For the walls, we did a glossy and textured zellige , and a small quartz backsplash on the window wall with a custom curved edge.

Plumbing, hardware, and lighting were in matte black and bronze, with the pendants adding a refreshing pop of soft, flowing white.
Seating and dining were not overlooked! We opted for cushioned counter stools with a woven back (and washable cushion cover). Our clients' kept the existing kitchen table, and we added another touch of woven texture to the kitchen chairs, these chairs being easily wiped down. We finished the space off with a washable rug for under the table, which anchors the area as the "dining space" while being easy to clean and maintain.
To top it all off? Wood beams were added spanning the entire kitchen space, up leveling the space's coziness factor to a 10/10.

The transformation of this Leesburg kitchen was remarkable. What was once a dark, outdated space is now bright, inviting, and perfectly tailored to our clients' lifestyle.
