When a McLean family approached Alicia Thomasson Interiors, their goal wasn’t just to update their first floor—they wanted a space that felt deeply personal, layered with meaning, and full of quiet character. The design vision? A mix of celestial wonder, woodland whimsy, and nautical touches. The challenge? Ensuring it all flowed together seamlessly.
We're thrilled to pull back the curtain on this project, starting with the Sitting Room.

We actually sat in this room with the clients at the Initial Meeting. A few things stood out to me immediately - the side chairs didn't look comfortable for the type of gatherings the couple shared that they hosted, the rug was too small, and the windows were begging for something other than blinds. The room had nice features too though - the wall mouldings were a nice touch, and I loved the warmth of the brick on the fireplace for the "vibe" they were going for.

The sofa and coffee table were in great shape, so utilized them in the design and built the rest of the room around them. A fresh coat of white paint gave this room a bright, classic feel to anchor the "fun" going on inside it. We incorporated a woodland rug, cozy swivels, sunburst clock, mushroom stools (probably my favorite part of this room), and plenty of pillows. Dreamy white draperies were hung, an entertaining bar cart was added, and a stunning branch chandelier was installed above the coffee table (ok, maybe that is my favorite part. It's hard to choose!). The clients wanted privacy to the adjoining office, so we sourced stained glass film which adds unexpected whimsy.

We styled the space with a faux olive tree, colorful candlesticks, gold animal figurines, and seaglass beads atop a large coffee table book.

Take a look at those beautiful office doors!
The room is cheerful, welcoming, and joyful. We're spilling the beans on the next room soon. Stay tuned!
