Project Reveal: A Jewel Box Powder Bath

This jewel box powder bath was designed to leave a lasting impression the moment you step inside.

A Moody Moment, Perfectly Composed

Tucked just off the main living spaces, this powder bath was our opportunity to create something intimate, layered, and unforgettable. While the rest of the home carries a classical elegance, this space was meant to surprise and delight guests.

The Before + Beginnings

We stripped the space down to the studs with the intention of repurposing two items - the equestrian framed art and vintage faucet. Everything else had to go, and our client wanted a way to incorporate storage as well, because a basket under the sink just wasn't cutting it.

We began with the walls, enveloping the room in a deep, moody hue that instantly sets the tone. The forest green color creates depth and intimacy, but completely color drenching a bathroom of that size in such a dark tone would be overpowering. We sourced a textured wallpaper from Europe that meshed the deep tones into a scene that tells a story of its own.

For the flooring, we selected a gorgeous marble mosaic, installed at just the right angle for impact.

An Antique Reimagined

The heart of this powder bath is the custom vanity which was originally an antique table that we transformed into a functional work of art. Rather than opting for a standard cabinet, we wanted something soulful and storied. But using an antique piece as a vanity isn't for the unexperienced. The proportions were carefully adjusted and plumbing was thoughtfully integrated to turn it into a standard height functioning vanity.

Topping the vanity is a custom quartz countertop with a matching curved backsplash. It’s a balance of old and new — heritage craftsmanship paired with modern performance.

Elevated in the Details

The remaining small selections resulted in massive impact.

Unfortunately, the original faucet we had hoped to repurpose was damaged in demolition, so we sourced a Rohl faucet with cross handles in the same chrome finish.

To further customize the design (and probably stress the contractor out to the max) was to cut the wall moulding snug along the base of the curved mirror . We then placed soft, warm lighting on either side with unlaquered brass sconces.

Each layer was designed to feel cohesive yet unexpected.

Designed to Be Remembered

Powder baths are often small in scale but powerful in impact. This project is a perfect example of how thoughtful customization transforms a functional room into an experience. By combining antique elements, custom fabrication, premium materials, and timeless finishes, we created a space that feels curated rather than constructed.

This is the kind of room guests talk about long after they leave.

And it’s a reminder that sometimes the smallest spaces offer the greatest opportunity for bold, unforgettable design.
